At 1500 m, there are a good 40 cm of storm snow on the 4 March
raincrust and the bed surface of the large wet avalanche that ran in
the Kathlyn Path that day. This storm snow is getting quite dense and
reacts to shear tests, but not to ski cutting. I saw no new avalanches
at all, even in steep sunny aspects. The snowpack above 1200 m is
still growing and wintry, but the sun is now powerful enough to make
the top ten cm moist even on shaded aspects. Skiing quality was very
good where shaded and good where sun affected.
