I went through the Musical Bumps yesterday.
It snowed all day in temperatures that ranged from -2 to -5. This made a
total storm snow accumulation of 15cm that is on top of a variable thickness
crust. Soft wind slabs directly below ridge tops were reactive to ski
cutting, creating 30-50cm deep fractures that slid on the April 8th crust.
The ski quality was OK, with mostly constant ski contact on the crust. I
did not go down the Singing Pass trail, but I was told that yesterday
it was skiable with lots of forest greens and browns on the trail's
surface.
On the 6th I worked up the Callaghan
Valley. Huge snow pack remaining. The access road is plowed to
the Olympic Site and is 2WDable. At 4500' all the creeks are
still well buried.
