Today we returned to the Burnie Glacier Chalet after a three day
traverse in the Telkwa Mountains east of here. Until today, conditions
were good, with firm snow and good skiing even if it was cloudy and
snowing most of the time. We found dry snow above 1600 m and good corn
below. We observed two size 2 slabs, both small in storm snow. No
cornices fell, but they are huge, creating large glide cracks along
ridge lines.
There is a great deal of snow and travel conditions are excellent as
long as it does not rain. This is unfortunately happening today below
1400 m. Above that elevation, it is snowing heavily.
