Climbed Mt Athabasca today via the AA col route.
We had excellent conditions with a good freeze overnight.
There is still a lot of snow in the mountains
There has been natural activity on the AA col route in the last few
days, and no doubt more to come.
Timing on this route and others is critical until things cool off again.
Around 10,000ft on the upper glacier. there is a melt freeze crust on
the surface but presently doesn't support weight, dry snow under this
layer and boot top penetration. A party coming up the north glacier
said the change was around the top of the ramp, becoming breakable
there as well.
Conditions were still frozen at the bottom of the gullies by 1140am,
but wouldn't have wanted to be much later.
Parties on Andromeda today as well.
