Came out of Lake
o'Hara on Friday afternoon. Lots of snowy patches on the higher level trails
around Lake O'Hara. Mt. Schaeffer north ridge is in good shape and almost
snow-free. We tried Mt. Odaray and encountered 20-30 cm of moist,
unconsolidated snow on the surface, which made travel cumbersome on the
glacier. Most of the cornices from the ridgeline above have dropped
recently, however some big ones are still lingering and threatening the usual
ascent route. The couloir to the notch between Little Odaray and Big
Odaray looked very uninviting with dirt showing on the surface and the snow
being moist and unconsolidated. We changed plans and traversed over
into the ascent route to Little Odaray, which was pleasant and the steeper rock
scrambling to get to the ridge was largely dry.
Cheers,
