June 29th to July 2nd on the Wapta. up to Bow then over to Peyto and
out. Climbed St Nick and Mt Thompson.
Generally good travel on the glacier with maybe up to boot top
travel. We traversed to Peyto on July 1st and just walked on top
of the snow, easy going. Once off the glacier things were different
and pack was isothermal with enough of a crust to barely hold you up.
Still lots of snow on the glaciers, only a patch of ice at the toe of
Bow glacier. The Peyto glacier had snow down to where it flattens
out, then ice. Descending from Peyto hut it got a bit punchy once the
pack was one metre or less. Saw some old sluffing, some older cornice
failure but nothing new or of significance, nor any slabs.
Water levels pretty normal for this time of year.
