Went for a trip up to Balu Pass and Bruins Pass today(Friday). (see photos attached)

A little less recent snow closer to 10-20cm. otherwise similar to what I observed in the Asulkan on Thursday with a little more wind effect– managed to keep my skis on both in and out, though it is a bit of a bobsled ride for sure  - and you definitely don’t want to fall!

Cool day with -4 temps in Revy this am after a clear night – I did see a few small surface hoar crystals on the snow surface in the valley bottom but that was it. Again the lower crust appeared well bonded with the block shearing in the storm snow @ 10cm. above the crust, but not very cleanly – no results from ski cutting small steep features and I haven’t heard a whumpf yet this year. None the less the crust is widespread and may just need more load or a stronger slab to become more reactive – definitely not something to forget about right now.

Weather came in, after the first couple of runs, with moderate winds and snowing 1-2cm. and hour – it has been snowing all night in Revy (our first real one) – so hopefully things will soon be well covered.

Cheers,

Scott Davis
