Climbed A2 today with a party of 18. (12 strong SARTECH trail breakers )
We went up the boundary glacier where the right hand ramp is in good
shape right now. A bit of freeze up high gave a crust, unfortunately
it did not really support weight. the worst part was above the ramp
where flatter glacier was crust on mush, around a metre deep, and
made for some hard work.
Up higher it was a bit better where the snowpack is deeper. It was a
cloudy snowy day which was the only thing that saved us from an early
retreat. The Shrund on A2 is well filled in and hard to see.
Still some patches of snow on the last rock pitch below the summit.
Still lots of snow on the ledges under Boundary peak which tend to
dump snow and rocks into the top of the ramp. Some old
avalanches were evident below the ramp on the same side.
In general the travelling was not good and is not really recommended
at this time. Best to let things consolidate a bit more.
