Went for a flight yesterday looking at some terrain down south on
Kinbasket lake and up Ptarmigan Creek. Lots of flying around
generally displayed an idea of conditions in the western Rockies,
probably somewhat typical of the Rockies area around Jasper. No snow
in the valleys, starting around treeline, with lots of wind affect up high.
Looks like about 50 or so in the alpine but quite variable. North
aspects are not melting as fast but anything facing the sun is
melting slowly upwards to about treeline due to solar heating and a
slight warming trend over the last few days.
Skiing? not really....some patches here and there but you have to get
to them. Did not notice any signs of any slab avalanches but would
certainly be suspect seeing the ripples in open terrain...
the picture of Robson shows the difference between valley bottom and
mountain top......the other is an unkown drainage...typical of snow
conditions in the alpine
