March 31st, 2009.
Just finished 12 days skiing in the Monashees just
east of the Craigellachie ck/Gorge ck country. Cool weather and not much snow or
wind. Treeline and below we found snow stability on shaded slopes improved
steadily over the period. Skied some fine, steep, North facing, treeline
and below terrain in the past few days.
Southerly facing slopes have some buried
crusts that we didn't observe as the skiing was mostly poor there for over a
week and we simply avoided them. These sun affected slopes may be the big
question when the next snow hits. Everything, of course, is open to change if
and when the next storm hits or the temperatures go way up.
Also, be aware these observations do not apply to
the alpine as we simply weren't able to get there.
