Ski toured Observation Sub Peak today, March 4th (pages 70 and 94 of Summits & Icefields by Chic Scott). Good travelling with below ankle ski penetrations on established up tracks as far as the Cirque/Observation Col, then little evidence of any recent parties to the sub peak. Bootpacked two short sections. We skied the recommended glacier to the Northeast to its terminus, fun skiing on wind pressed and scoured surfaces, kind of like dust on crust. Never more than ankle deep penetration. Felt like winter back at the top of Observation Sub Peak, then spring back at the road with water melting on the highway. The truck thermometer said -15 C at 7-am.
