[MCR] Mt Assiniboine, North Ridge, August 17, 2010

Hiked into the Hind Hut via the Assiniboine Creek approach on Saturday, climbed the N Ridge of Assiniboine on Monday, and exited via Assiniboine creek today.

The road into the West side approach is in great shape for almost any vehicle.  Limited chicken wire to wrap your vehicle at the parking lot.  The trail up Assiniboine Creek is in excellent shape.  Two short sections (15-20 min each) of rough scree on the route, otherwise nice travel the whole way.  Crampons and a rope are needed for the Sturdee Glacier crossing.

The North Ridge was in good shape with some snow patches and a little verglas up high to keep you on your toes.  We climbed it without using crampons but had to chop a few steps and had good conditions for kicking steps in the snow along the summit ridge.  Did a few extra rappels on the way down due to the snow as well.

The Hind hut is in good shape.  Running water near the hut.  Might want to bring in a light sleeping pad to supplement the hut foamies and a small stove if the hut is full.
