Noteworthy in the East Creek basin of the Bugaboos was the extent of runout from a recent serac avalanche off S. Howser/Pigeon col (photos attached). It went well into where I’ve seen many a tents before. On one of the photos you can see a tent pitched beside one of the large boulders. On a separate event, another huge chunk of ice broke off and bounced down along the ascent/descent path of the col, but the good news is that this slope test didn’t pull out any slabs. The Howser/Pigeon col is in very good condition right now with sags just becoming visible over the bergschrund.
The Kain route on Bugaboo Spire was in excellent condition and all snow on the route can easily be avoided; the same goes for the West Ridge of Pigeon.
Cheers and enjoy,
