Location/Date: Bow Lake to Little Yoho Wapta Traverse, February 12-14, 2012 with JP Kors.
Conditions: Excellent conditions with good coverage on the Icefield including the Mt. Collie Icefall. Average depths of snow is 250cm. On the decent from the Collie Plateau, we followed the ridge down to the proposed new Des Poilus Hut site (see the latest edition of the Scott/Klassen guidebook). The south side of Isolated Col was breakable sun-crust. Over the 3 days, the area received 10 cm of low density snow. This had little effect on the overall avalanche danger.
Areas of Concern: Descending the ridge down to the proposed hut site is exposed to cornices.
Additional Information: Fresh (very) Wolverine tracks near Lauging falls.
