I had the pleasure of climbing the Weeping Pillar today with friends Chris and
Ralph. It was Chris' second day on ice since returning from nine months of
service in Afghanistan. Welcome home!
We found great spring ice throughout. On the lower wall it was important to
select the right groove as some have had more sun affect. The upper wall was in
good shape. There was some water flowing on the far right, and ice for gear on
p2 was widely spaced. 65m from the ledge to the upper cave (p2) right now. We
cleaned a number of hanging daggers from above the cave on rappel.
Wx obs. High +2C. Winds C-M from West. Partly cloudy. HN 1-2cm between Lake
Louise and SK Crossing. Ridgetop winds M-S from West w snow transport. No new
avelanches observed in the vicinity of Weeping Wall.
Hwy 93N is quite icy N of SK Crossing. Bring your skates.
