[MCR] Sorcerer/BenedictASG exam

Subject: [MCR] Sorcerer/BenedictASG exam
Date: Sun, 15 Apr 2012 22:39:20 -0600 (MDT)
Two Apprentice Ski Guides exams skied in the Sorcerer Lodge & Benedict Creek
areas from April 7 - 14 th.
We skied principally alpine features, North, East or South to 40 degrees.
We had sunny high pressure weather until the night of April 11th with strong
diurnal fluctuations. A very warm day on the 10th ( freezing level at 3000m) was
followed by light snowfall between April 12-14th.
Calm winds until April 11th followed by moderate southerly winds on the 12th and
a shift to moderate northwesterly winds on the 13th.
New snow between 5-10 cm in the last 2 days overlaying a melt freeze crust to
2700m.
We observed gradually improving stability throughout the week with notable
absence of slab avalanches except in steep un-skiable terrain.
Numerous point releases in the alpine and at treeline on solar aspects.
March 27th interface still reactive in tests 50-90 cm down, most notable with SP
results on S-aspects.
Large cornices still present on many ridges.
Snow cover 3m+ on most glaciers with good bridging except the lower part of
Iconoclast glacier.
