Spent August 3-9 guiding in the Bugaboos with trips over most of the
glaciers in the region. Very good snow coverage for August and easy travel.
Crampons were not required until the AM of the 7th which despite overnight lows
of 5 degrees above 0, saw significant radiation cooling and hard snow surfaces.
I suspect that will be the continuing trend. Bugaboo/Snowpatch col has a good
track although the bergschrunds are getting larger daily. Of particular
note:
- Chicken wire at the parking lot is becoming scarce or un-useable due to
heavy traffic so bring a roll and anyone with a truck to haul out the un-useable
wire would be doing us all a service.
- Internet beta (from numerous sites) on the Becky/Chouinard rappel descent
is incorrect and all the stations are 28m or less apart so one 60m rope is
adequate for the descent. Kudos to whomever built this descent route it works
very well.
Stay Safe!
