Kirsten Knechtel and I just spent 5 days with 5 guests on the Asulkan traverse in Rogers Pass. The conditions and the weather for the most part were excellent other then a few fast moving thunder storms. We found good water and camp spots under the Abott/Afton Col, and near the end of Rampart. There was also water at Sapphire Col, although not from the lake but from a run off from the glacier. Of note, Rampart has a cairned bypass section to avoid what looked like a lichen covered ridge. This bypass leads you to a very washed out vertical sandbox with lots of moving rocks and was quite unpleasant. We are not sure what the ridge was like that we bypassed, but guessing that it could only be better then the sandbox! Also, the descent off Jupiter is getting
to be quite a scrappy ridge of dirt and loose rock due to erosion. We climbed Youngs Peak the last day and were still able to stay on snow the whole way up. A classic ridge traverse that is in great shape right now.
