Hi Everybody,

I had the good luck of climbing Mt. Assiniboine over the last few days. Just like everybody else out there we had perfect weather and really good conditions on the mountain. A light dusting (5 cm above 10000') of snow on the night of the 14th melted off significantly on the 15th leaving the route in fine shape. Rockfall from melting was a concern at times, but we didn't really see/hear any. That was partly because we had the hoods of our puffy jackets done up nice and tight for most of the route, chilly up there that day. The usual get up/down early policy worked well for us. We brought crampons/axes and an ice screw but didn't use any of them.

There are a lot of slings "fixed" on the route. Please be sure to test them and be sure they are actually attached to the hill. There were a number of them that were just cord around a block perched on the slope. Many failed the kick test. I'd also suggest bringing some extra cord to back some of them up.

If you're thinking of climbing the route, now is a good time to give it a shot. If you're walking in, be sure to check out the BC access. Much, much quicker.

Enjoy the summer while its here.
