Brent Peters, Tim Banfield and I climbed Whiteman Falls today. There was only
10cms of new snow at valley bottom in this area from Tuesday and Wednesday's
storm.
There was a large open water pool on the approach ice that had to be
negotiated in order to access the upper canyon. We had to do a few mixed moves
on the right hand side with no protection and the risk of falling in the deep
pool. We called it the 'deep water solo pitch'.
The climb itself was in good shape and had interesting but protectable ice
climbing.
Red Man Soars also looked to be in good shape.
