Just came home from a great day in Rogers
Pass – skiing in the Loop and Asulkan drainages.
Access is still good via Loop Brook – the couple of
thin snowbridges on the creek demand a bit of your attention but other wise
still good coverage in the ck.
Spring conditions would pretty well sum things up –
still some soft dry snow on Northerly aspects above 2300m.– other than
that if you time it right and ski when things have softened a bit from the sun –
there is some great Corn skiing to be had out there. Early morning track
setting is quite challenging with the hard crust on the surface – so if
you have ski crampons they would be a worthy addition to your luggage.
Not much for recent avalanche activity other than loose
sluffs caused by radiation and daytime heating (it stayed cool up high today) –
there was evidence of several thin old slabs on steep N. and E aspects but they
must be almost a week old now – but worth keeping in your mind depending
on the terrain you choose to ski.
Also keep in mind that when you are up high and everything
is still cool and strong – remember that way down in the valley, where
that trail is that you have to make your way out on at the end of the day, is
getting way hotter than you imagine – so leave time to get out before things
soften up too much down low.
Have a great Spring,
Scott Davis
