More beta for the early spring mountaineer.
I scrambled up Esplanade peak today.
It is 7500ft, 4200ft elevation gain. A good work out. Mostly a walk
but some exposed scrambling and route finding.
This peak is in the eastern slopes of Jasper, right above the Snaring
Warden's Station. A nice early season scramble. The S face gullies
offer a fairly quick descent. The gully is in good shape now. Still a
lot of snow on the upper ridge.
that you can't really see from below and you are forced onto it
routinely up higher. The deeper pack supported weight, but only where
it was deeper than a meter. snow in the south gully was good. Lots of
old debris that is easy to move on.
Looking around from up there it still looked very white in all of the
upper valleys.
though the Colin range looks OK from the south, there is still a lot
of snow on the ridges of Colin and Meisners ridge. Not yet or nearly yet...
From the valley floor many of the peaks look dry but it still looks
like winter up high, especially on the north sides.
Here is picture of the route, and as well another one looking south
at the north side of Pyramid.
