Hi Everyone
Just home from a ski touring trip in Iceland. The trip is in the north
western fiords through a protected, uninhabited area. We lived aboard a 60
foot sail boat and traversed daily to different fiords. We would ski up and
over, and the boat would go around allowing us to see new terrain daily. The
snow is mostly corn and usually goes right to the sea. The runs are
2000'-2500' feet. We did have stormy weather with high winds that
transported snow and loaded a few couloirs so much they were unsafe to ski.
Did the trip last year (photo) in perfect weather. It was still awesome this
year as you can still pull off the traverse in any weather and the boat is
equipped with heaters for drying. The boat has a crew of two and the food is
local and great.
