Mountain Condition Report for the Coast Mountains as
of July 05/07
Conditions on the coast sound quite similar to those
of the interior.
Much snow still remains above 6500ft. In the high
alpine its more like early June than July. Travel on
the snow was quite good up till the past few days with
good freezes over night. Now with the forcasted high
temps this could change. This morning at 6 am it was 7
degrees C at 8000ft.
Glacier travel remains quite good for this time of the
year with excellent coverage over most crevasses.
Most East through West rock route in the alpine are
almost totally free of snow and good for climbing now.
This may include such routes as: The south ridge of
Joffre, South West route on Matier, Blackcomb
buttress, Habrich, Yak peak, Springbok arete and the
standard route on Sleese. Most North facing routes
still have a bit of snow on them, but may be climbable
by more experianced climbers.
Almost all rock climbs are now dry in the Sqamish
area, however many long routes haven't seen much
traffic this year with the heavy rain and falcon
closures. Be prepared for as bit dirt and junk in the
crack and maybe carry an extra nut tool for some
cleaning.
Have fun. Craig McGee Mountain Guide
