I was in the Bugs from August 11th – 16th. I am sure the weather is a bit unsettled at the moment and conditions are changing again but I think the main hazard up there right now is the Bugaboo - Snowpatch Col. The top is completely bare ice and rock now and several very large rocks have come down the full length of it lately. So far the shrund is only open on the climbers left which makes descending that side to avoid rockfall difficult. To top it all off, the crevasses are opening up on the bottom climbers left which makes for trickier route finding and slower travel through this section. Also good to keep in mind is that two people have fallen the entire length of the col recently. They both got away lucky(ish) with one only bruised and the other with a lower leg injury. Many parties have been using the Pigeon – Snowpatch Col rappels to avoid the col. If you go this way it might be a good idea to keep your eyes open and your rope on while descending the lower Bugaboo glacier as the snow is getting thin and many of the crevasses are opening up. Cheers, Marc Piché MG
