Just finished a couple of days of scrambling in the eastern slopes
with a client.
The weather was not great and rain both days on June 10th abnd 11th.
Quite variable distribution of new snow up high above 6500ft. We
scrambled up Mt Shouy (at the Miette Hotsprings) in rain and snow on
the 10th. Up to 30cm of recent snow above 6500ft.
On the 11th we climbed the scramble route on Roche Miette in fog and
whiteout where less new snow was found on the scrambling part of the
route. Not enough to be an avalanche problem however would recommend
3-4 days to let the route dry off. Above 7000 ft on the bench there
was again 20-30cm of recent new snow, zero visibility. Everythings is
pretty dry below 6000ft.
Certainly some upslope conditions here and it looked drier south of
Jasper. Not sure what is happening at the icefields....
sunny today.....maybe it's spring again.
