Rockies, Lake O'Hara, Opabin Glacier (July 10)
Opabin Glacier has good snow coverage offering supportive step
kicking. This will surely change within the next week as thin areas
only have 30-40cm of snow over the ice, which will make crampons
necessary. The small bergshrund before heading up to Opabin Pass is
still well filled-in with avalanche debris. By the time I left today
at 4:30 p.m., the snow-line was well below treeline and it was snowing
at Lake O'Hara.
Attached is a photo of Hungabee taken this morning before the real
snow started to fall.
