Just back from a trip into the Fryatt area. Our one climbing day we
ascended Mt Parnassus one of the jewels of the area. It is accessed
from the back cirque between it and Mt Belanger. Some nice rock and
views. (Recommended in the old Rockies north guidebook) Replaced the
rap slings.....
In general peaks in good shape. Fryatt still had snow on the SW face,
Olympus's shrund is still closed on the left, and Mt Belanger's S
gully still looks fairly good. The 3 blind Mice still have a large
cornice between peaks 1 and 2 which could threaten the descent route
if you come down between 2 and 3, looks like it can be managed though.
A very scary part was the wind storm that hit us in the trees below
the 1st campground. We witnessed a number of trees falling down
during an hour period as a front passed through. It was dangerous
walking in the forest, trying to guess which species we should hide
in.....We counted at least a dozen trees across the trail!
