A cast of dozens on Athabasca today. Good conditions all round with a hard radiation freeze on flatter ground but not quite as good on steeper slopes. Pretty good travel with the occasional post hole.
The recent storm snow has been cooked the past few days and is now crusted up. It reacted as a slab on solar aspects and ran as loose, wet avalanches on north aspects. We seem to be back into thaw instability issues but with the sporadic deeper slab wild card. Lots of cornices hanging around and falling off too. Mark Klassen Mountain Guide
