[MCR] Duffy Lake

A group of us spent the long weekend in Cerise Creek.  The season seems to be almost a month behind, with the snowline still down around 1400m.  We didn't get any freeze but did get a lot of rain.

The trail up to Keith's Hut is arduous for the climb up the shoulder; only the tree wells are melted out and the remaining snow was firm but rotting around the edges.  There is still over 1m of snow at the hut and the lake hadn't begun to melt.

Travel is great past the 1500m elevation band, with boot top or less foot penetration.  The sun cups are just big enough to make skiing fair to poor quality.

The usual spring hazards are still present, two hours of sunshine Sunday morning triggered a  cornice collapse off the East Ridge of Matier which released a healthy Sz 2.5 slab to ground (guessing 2-3m deep) with debris going half way across the flats below the toe of the Anniversary Glacier.  We also noted several wet slides and serac fall in the Twin One drainage.

Keep looking up.
