Some observations from - Cannaught Creek - Bruins -Balu Pass
Up to 50cm of storm snow over the March 15 SH. Compression test Moderate(18)down 45cm Breaks, thin buried wind slab above.
Very little settlement in upper snowpack from cold over night temps.
February Surface Hoar is obvious Compression Test Hard(28) sudden shear down 75cm well settled snowpack above.
Calm to light Southerly winds. Some wind effect on low angle valley bottom fans.
The day was clear and sunny with some solar affect below 2200m on direct south aspect slopes.
North aspect skiing was as good as it gets. South was pretty good too.
Main conerns Isolated Soft slabs in alpine features, unsupported rolls, cornices and daytime warming
No whumping, cracking or reactivity from ski cuts.
Avalanche Activity:
1 size 2.5 Na Slab off of the side cliffs of Grizzly chute, South Aspect. A corner of the slab wrapped into the chute..looked deep.
Lots of old debris piles from the recent torrent of warm events. Frequent Flyer and most paths on Cheops have run well into the valley.
We'll see what tomorrow brings.
