Just back from a July 16-19
trip with the Yamnuska Cadet Camp and thought I would share some
pics. On the 17th we headed up to the President Glacier for some skills
practice.
As reported from the week
before a significant overhead hazard exists on the climber's right near the pass
with debris seen here.
We got on to the glacier
from the climber's left above the moraine and only had about 30cm of snow
coverage for the first 100m or so of travel before depths increased higher
up.
Lots of bare ice visible
here in the lower reaches of the glacier
On July 18 we climbed Mt.
McArthur. Coverage on the glacier was good and we were easily able to
avoid bare ice the whole way and forgo crampons with the snow conditions we
had.
The crux snow slope near
the summit was soft enough for bucket steps although the group from the previous
week had harder snow conditions with a good freeze and opted for the
rock ridge on the right.
More pics of the area can
be seen at www.facebook.com/mountainsense
Cheers,
Shaun King
