Avalanche involvement - Ranger Creek, Kananaskis Country

A group of 6 people (2 parties of 3 people) was involved in an avalanche this morning in Ranger Creek, near the base of the ice climbs "Lone Ranger" and "The Chalice and the Blade". The avalanche came from above and hit all 6 members of the party. Two people were partially buried and the other four were only hit by debris. Of the two partial burials, one person was buried with only her boot showing, and the other person was buried up to his arm-pits. The party was able to self-rescue and everyone survived the incident without any major injuries. Nobody in the group was carrying avalanche rescue equipment (transceiver, shovel, probe).

We are posting further details on our Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/KCPublicSafety and an updated Public Avalanche Bulletin has been issued at http://www.avalanche.ca/cac/bulletins/latest/kananaskis
