Made an attempt on Polar Circus today, but decided to turn around just after
the Pencil by pass pitch due to slaby snow conditions. There seems to have
been quite a bit of wind up high in this area. Most notably on the the upper
snow slopes we saw a fairly uniform semi supportive wind slab that was up to
40cm’s thick overlying a punchy basal layer. Not very confidence inspiring.
The lower pitches were in good early season condition. The Pencil is no where
near touching.
The snow on Solar aspects was getting moist with day time warming.
