Perfect day climbing in Rogers Pass today with sunny skies and no
wind. A friend and I climbed some ice seeping out of the Little Face on Mt
Macdonald. The ice was fat and mostly in good condition with excellent screws
throughout.
The approach was a little tedious in ankle to chest deep
snow at times in alder. On the way down we went straight down the avalanche
path on old avalanche debris, which in hindsight was the way we should have
gone up from the bottom as it was only ankle to knee deep.
The river crossing was easy on logs 50m uphill from the
upper end of #2 snowshed.
The windslabs in the avalanche path were settling and
bonding well, no concerns today with calm conditions, although we did carry
avalanche gear.
The closure takes effect on Tuesday the 26th, so
there’s only 2 more days left.
