Went to Evan Thomas Creek / Kananaskis yesterday. About 5 cm of new snow
there in the morning with strong westerly winds. There were parties on all
three most commonly climbed lines Moonshine, Snowline and 2 low for 0. As
usual, the latter two looked ok higher up but require short screws for the
first 20 meters or so. Moonshine is in good shape with the belay cave after
the first pitch being well accessible. The ensuing crux is maybe a tad more
sustained than usual (WI4+). Most surprising was how cold the ice still was
in spite of the warm temps lately, especially on the last pitch, where we
managed to send down some junks the size of microwaves.
Cheers,
Jorg Wilz
