Out for a short tour this morning to get the legs moving. Temps were mild but still below freezing, although it felt cooler with a moderate-strong wind blowing out of the west and sometimes limited visibility. There was 10-15 cm of low density snow on the surface above 2000 metres (more on lee aspects) and it snowed lightly most of the tour. The snow was light and dry until the sun made an appearance for less than 10 minutes and zapped it into a “cakey” feel. Spring is springing... Still good skiing, but slabs were beginning to form on lee features. Recent old tracks are pretty firm under the new snow.
An impressive, spooky slab ripped out in the last day or two below The Fist (photo). Cross-loaded slope, SE aspect.
