We skied from Burstall Pass parking lot over Tent Ridge via the "Spray Traverse" today. Excellent conditions. See attached for photos. A low of -14 C in the parking lot at 6:30 am, and a high of +1 C at the road when we left at 2:00 pm. Supportive crust carried right to the car in the afternoon.
With the cold temperatures things held together very well all day despite intense sun and clear skies. No natural avalanche activity or snowballing of note. Up to 40 cm of recent storm snow in the alpine with virtually no wind effect over the past couple of days, with an additional 5 cm or so overnight. This appears to be well settled with no cracking or shearing noted on the underlying melt-freeze crusts. We skied very steep rolls into Tryst Lake; fast hard sloughing noticed here on the steepest lines. Dry snow surfaces, moistening on steep solar aspects starting late in the morning.
A recent size 2.0 slab avalanche off Tent Ridge, South aspect at about treeline level on a crossloaded feature down about 60 cm, probably occurred last 48 hours. We rated hazard today as Low / Low / Low, rising slightly late in the afternoon with heating on solar aspects.
