Excellent conditions on the West Face of Mt Lefroy this morning on a training day with Kananaskis Public Safety. Easy crampon travel up firm snow from Abbotts Pass to the summit ridge with only a couple steps on ice along the way. The snow on the face is thinning out so there may be more bare ice soon. The ridge to the summit was mostly dry rock.
It was possible kick steps up snow for most of the approach slopes to Abbotts Pass in the morning which made for very quick travel. The final 100m was dry rock. The descent down the Death Trap appears to be in good condition from a distance but the crevasses are beginning to open up. The SE Ridge of Mt Victoria is drying off fast and also looks to be in good shape.
Photos of the area are available here. -- Conrad Janzen Visitor Safety Banff, Yoho and Kootenay National Parks _______________________________________________ These observations and opinions are those of the person who submitted them.
