The Watch Tower - Lake O'Hara -
Rockies
We climbed the West Face (II 5.7) of the Watch Tower yesterday near Lake O'Hara. There was a dusting of snow above 3000m on surrounding
peaks, but the rock was dry on our climb at 2500m.
We climbed the route in three pitches and each pitch is equipped with a bolted anchor. The leftward traverse on the third pitch is protected by fixed pins. The rappel off the NE face is easy to spot from the summit cairn and is set up with four ring bolts stations. We did not find any well defined trails or cairns on the approach or descent but following Watch Tower Creek is fairly straightforward. Renée Lavergne, ARG Helen Sovdat
