We attempted to ski on Mount Field yesterday however we found a variable
breakable wind or temperature crust in all open areas above about 1800m. It was
a beautiful day but the skiing was not very pleasant to say the least.
Of note, there was a thick fog layer up to about 2200m and all of the terrain
within the fog layer had a healthy blanket of surface hoar up to about 10mm
tall. This may be important to keep in mind when the next snowfall comes.
Happy hunting (for good skiing)
