[MCR] Sunshine Rock Access Update, Banff National Park, April 16, 2015

Subject: [MCR] Sunshine Rock Access Update, Banff National Park, April 16, 2015
Date: Thu, 16 Apr 2015 13:47:51 -0600

Several inquiries have been made regarding access to climbing at Sunshine Rock in Banff National Park during the construction on the Brewster Creek/Healy Creek trail this spring. At this point Sunshine Rock and the parking at the Brewster Creek/Healy Creek trailhead remains open with no anticipated closures.

Climbers are asked to park in a way that does not impeded access to any of the construction equipment or material present at the parking lot, and to access the crag without disturbing any of the equipment or material present near the crag.

Blasting for the trail construction was completed this winter at the SW corner of the crag. Subsequent rock scaling for the trail construction was completed this spring, however climbers may still encounter loose rock in this area especially in the “Roadside Left” section of the crag. Any fixed protection on nearby climbs should also be checked for integrity before committing to climbing on these routes.

When climbing please be aware that construction equipment may be moving back and forth on the trail at the base of the crag so please keep you ropes and personal gear organized and off to the side of the trail. By avoiding any conflicts with the various user groups we hope to keep access to the crag open all spring and summer.
