Mount Athabasca
Route: NE Ridge Bypass
Travel Conditions:
Travel conditions on
the mountain are excellent once again thanks to the recent cooling
trends at night. Boot pen average 5-10cm on the approach to the North
Face making for fast travel in the AM and held up well on the decent
down the North Glacier (Normal Route)
Coverage is below
average for this time of year and sagging bridges are visible all
over the North Glacier.
Route:
NE Ridge Bypass. We
crossed the bergschrund to the north face far climbers left with a well consolidated
bridge and found a 30-40cm deep snow flute that allowed use to gain
the ridge line with ease. The Scottish Gulley is chalked with snow
making rock fall better to manage.
About 15cm of resent storm snow has fallen at higher elevations.
Nice day to be in the
Mountains!
