[MCR] SPAW extended

Subject: [MCR] SPAW extended
Date: Fri, 1 Apr 2016 17:55:19 +0000

Avalanche Canada intends to extend the Special Public Avalanche Warning for the Interior Ranges of BC through the weekend. The SPAW extension will apply to: North Rockies, Cariboos, North Columbia Monashees and Selkirks, South Columbias, Purcells and Kootenay Boundary.

Models indicate continued warm temperatures, and while some cloud cover is likely on Saturday, we do not feel as though the situation has changed sufficiently to mitigate the hazard posed from deep slab release to the recreational public. Moreover, if we were not to extend the warning through the weekend, we are concerned the public may construe this as things are good to go.

The extension will not apply to coastal regions, the Yukon, the Lizard/Flathead, or the South Rockies.
