We accessed the Assiniboine via Aurora Creek from the Baymag mine road (Mitchell FSR). Remember for ore trucks as they track down from the mine. The Aurora creek FSR turning right from just before the mine is in great shape and 2WD to the trailhead. The trail goes over Marvel Pass and is in great repair. Marvel Pass is almost completely snow free or it will be soon. Crossing the creek between Gloria Lake and Marvel Lake required wading in knee deep water. The log foot bridge there is tilted at an awkward angle and a tough balancing act with a poor plastic rope hand line. The trail heading to Wonder Pass is completely snow free and Wonder Pass itself is almost snow free. The route down from Wonder Pass towards Assiniboine Lodge and Lake Magog has some sections of snow still. We experienced wintery conditions. Most trails around Assiniboine itself are snow free, most trails are currently saturated and muddy. Lots of grizzly signs all over but especially around Marvel Pass as they dig up Glacier Lilies. Renovations and repairs are being undertaken at Assiniboine Lodge and the Naiset Huts. They will be open in late June and you can find more info at assiniboinelodge.com. We also spent a day going up to Assiniboine and Luna lake on the south side of Assiniboine Peak. The trail is in great shape! Happy Trails! Read online (including photos, geolocation data, etc.)
