Got up early to climb Athabasca (June 17), but didn't get out of the truck at
the parking lot. Rain and low cloud. Climbed part way up the ridge on Hilda
Peak, but continued rain mixed with snow, a cool north wind, and only a light
freeze on the surface of an otherwise moist snowpack made for unpleasant
travel.
We ended up rock climbing at Mount Kerkeslin in the afternoon, with a mix of
sun and light rain showers.
This morning's dusting of snow was down to about 2200 meters. Generally
unstable weather with some electrical activity is making for poor, and somewhat
dangerous, mountain travel. News media reports a fatality from lightning in
Alberta, with 6 others injured, check this link for the story:
