Howdy,
Guided an ascent of the NW Ridge of Sir Donald yesterday. Great conditions the
whole way up. Conrad's recent post covers the bulk of the bivi and approach, so
ill try not to overlap much here and stick just to the route info.
There was no overnight freeze. We still decided to take the ice axes up and
down the peak but left the crampons behind due to the warmth. Worked out well
as there was one steep section of snow on the ridge that the ice axes were
required, but no need for crampons as the step kicking was solid. Easy travel
on the approach, and descent from the base of the peak back to camp on the snow.
Nothing out of the ordinary up there right now. The peak's in great shape!
