July 5th and 6th gave sessions of unsettled weather in the Columbia
Icefields area with poor freezes. There was some light snow at upper
elevations and light rain showers in valley on Saturday.
With late clearing Saturday night, good conditions were found on many
of the routes on the north and west side of Mt Athabasca. Today there
were numerous parties on Silverhorn, AA col, one on the Norht face
by-pass, and a few on the north ramp.
Eric Ostokevich and I took two teams up and down the AA col route. We
arrived back at the toe of the glacier just before 1200hrs with a
good crust still holding on the AA gullies.
The mountain was quite busy today with climbers taking advantage of
cooler temperatures and a break in the weather,
Today we all lucked out!
