ACMG Mountain Conditions Report Summary for the Rockies and Columbia Mountains issued 09/05/2013

This past week has again seen favourable climbing conditions with mostly great weather, and very dry mountains. The dryness, however, is also causing the biggest concerns right now. The greatest hazards have been challenging to impassable crevasses and bergshrunds along with increased rockfall from a lack of overnight freezes.

The next few days are showing potential for mixed precipitation, with a good chance of rain down low and likely snow up in the mountains. This system is uncertain but If it comes to fruition, expect things to get a bit more challenging again for a few days, with more sun and warmth returning again in the near future. Consider letting things settle before venturing out on a big mission, as travel will be slower and rockfall hazard will again increase as the new snow melts.

Great conditions continue in the Bugaboos, and Rogers Pass, allowing those lucky enough to not have to return to the grind of school and work to make the most of the lessened crowds and warm weather! Bugaboo/Snowpatch col is a bit of an icy mess however, and people might want to consider using the Snowpatch raps as another means of getting down. A lack of overnight freezes up there has added to this concern.

Still feels like full on summer out there. Be flexible with the slightly unpredictable weather, start early still and make the most of the great late summer conditions.
