I spent the day lapping the West Nile Glades (NE facing treed slopes) with a friend.
On our first lap we did a half-hearted foray above treeline but turned around quickly due to serious whoomfing, shooting cracks and shearing in the interface between storm snow and the old facets. We needed little convincing of the reliability of the High avalanche hazard forecast, it's super touchy right now. Trail breaking was rough when we ventured off the old up-tracks. Boot penetration is to ground (100 cm +) in loose facets. Ski quality on the way down was super punchy, not what one would call good but kind of fun and good for the two f's, fitness and fotography, if nothing else. Here's an example of how photos can make any day look epic: Karsten Heuer making funky snow look great.
